Eligibility & Routes

Whether you are just starting your journey into teaching or changing careers, eligibility varies depending on the route you choose. Below is everything you need to know before you apply.

What qualifications do I need?

To train to teach in England and work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS):

  • Undergraduate Degree
You must hold a UK bachelor’s degree (or equivalent). A 2:1 is preferred, and a 2:2 may be accepted for some secondary subjects with relevant experience or strong subject knowledge.

  • GCSEs or Equivalent
    You must hold:

    • English Language – Grade C/4 or above

    • Mathematics – Grade C/4 or above

    • Science – Grade C/4 or above if you are training to teach at primary level.

If you do not have the necessary GCSEs yet, Grow with Aletheia can accept equivalency tests as evidence of English and maths at the required standard.

  • Qualifications obtained outside the UK
You must have them evaluated for UK equivalence (e.g. UK ENIC) before applying. International applicants must also be able to work and train legally in the UK throughout their course (e.g., appropriate visa status).
